I just read a very thoughtful and provocative top-to-bottom analysis of the ND basketball program. Also sheds quite a bit of light on the Big East. The author did quite a bit of research and his very reasonable recommendations are built on that homework.

Actually, there’s apparently three ways to count college football national titles … and whenever a team like Alabama wins a title and claims it’s their 13th national title, you hear whispers in the crowd … like “How is that possible?” “Really … that many?” and “I thought this was only their 8th”. And of [...]
Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy had a good message. He wanted to protect his player. The fact that he reminded folks that he coaches students and not professionals is admirable. It’s just that about two minutes into his tirade bystanders had to worry about their personal safety.
I’ve been pretty good this year … okay, maybe just a bit better than average … so I have a pretty modest wish list for you. The great thing about this list is that you don’t have to rush the elves to GET ‘ER DONE by 12/25. Nope, this list can be accomplished over several weeks … even months, if not years. Okay … coming clean here … some of the items are nearly miracles, so you might want to get some help from YOU KNOW WHO. So this is what I want, in no particular order, but the most important stuff is definitely at the end:

I couldn’t wait for Open Thread Thursday to toss this one out there. Heck, we’re only a few hours away from Thursday on the Right Coast anyway.
So there’s been a whole lotta chatter on ESPN and various other sites about the Big 10 wanting to expand from 11 to 12 teams (How silly does that [...]
A new era began for Notre Dame football on Friday as new coach Brian Kelly was introduced to the media. There’s a lot written and videoed about Brian Kelly and how he fits with Notre Dame on ESPN, MSN, Fox, etc … obviously, the ND coaching job is still quite relevant given the wall-to-wall coverage this week. It’s not an easy job, but it is still very prestigious. The consensus among the experts seems to be that Kelly is a really good fit for this job.
I’m so sick of Florida and Tim Tebow that I can’t tell you how happy I am that they were exposed and humiliated by Alabama in the SEC title game. Hope they drop down to #8 or worse, which is what they deserve. Maybe Urban Meyer will be so disgusted/frustrated that he’ll actually consider a brand new chellenge in South Bend. Hey … a guy can dream, can’t he?
Thank goodness, the Charlie Weis Era is over! And I’m not the only one who’s delighted about this. As you can see in the photo, Charlie is being escorted straight to an NFL coordinators job … do not pass go, do not clean up your office … we’ll send you your stuff.
Well, anyone who was either watching the ND game, or at least trying to keep up with scores on Saturday, now understands that the Irish will almost certainly be replacing Charlie Weis with a new coach between seasons. (If they don’t, AD Jack Swarbrick should also be shown the door). Anyway, I won’t spend time making the argument to let Weis go. The evidence is overwhelming … how many data points — like another uninspired home loss to a team with far less talent — do you need?
You’re a nice man, Charlie Brown … er, uh … Weis. And you’ll still be a nice man years from now as you reflect upon your 5 years under the Golden Dome. And of course you’ll be enjoying that large bank account that the rest of us alums have padded for you over this very forgettable Faustian-type era. But you tried and you cared, so thanks for that. In general, thanks for playing. But as they say during the gameshows when contestants are shown the door … “we have some nice parting gifts for the losers”.
