Last year marked the first annual “Hoops and Heroes” event. The tournament ended up being a tremendous success and saw the NYPD as champions. Eighteen college basketball coaches appeared and helped the teams, while ESPN’s Seth Greenberg and CBS Sports’ Pete Gillen were masters of ceremonies. The participation of the US Military Members and New York City First Responders also led to the success of the event.

This year, the event will run parallel to New York City Fleet Week, which will give a bigger opportunity to make the event a success and show the appreciation to these men and women. The coaches, accompanied by Coach Gillen, will be greeting the servicemen and women on their ships at 11:45 am at the Pier, 12th Avenue and West 56th Street. They will also partake in Bike Build, where the coaches will help assemble bicycles for the sailors to take home to their children.
