DeAndre Bembry has been named the Philadelphia Big 5 Rookie of the Year, while Langston Galloway, Halil Kanacevic and Ronald Roberts  Jr.  have each earned All-Big 5 honors. They will be honored with other men’s and women’s award winners at the annual Big 5 banquet at The Palestra on April 14.

Galloway and Kanacevic were named to the All-Big 5 First Team while Roberts earned Second Team honors.  Galloway will also receive an award as the Big 5′s top scorer with his 17.7 average for the Atlantic 10 Champion Hawks.

Bembry becomes the first Hawk to earn the top rookie award since Galloway did so in 2010-11.  The 6-6 freshman averaged 12.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 45.8 percent from the field. Bembry, who was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Year, scored double figures in 25 games this season. He was the first Saint Joseph’s freshman to average double figures since Galloway in his rookie season.

Galloway finished his career as the second leading scorer in school history with 1,991 points and as SJU’s all-time leader in three-pointers with 334. Galloway topped the team with a career-best 17.7 points per game and 108 three-point field goals, while converting 44.3 percent from behind the arc. One of SJU’s most reliable players, he set the school record with 132 games started. An Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and All-Championship Team selection in 2014, Galloway earns All-Big 5 honors for the third time.

Kanacevic made his mark as one of the most unique players in school history, as the 6-8 forward topped the team in rebounds (8.8), assists (4.38) and blocks (1.53), while averaging 10.8 points per game. He finished his career with over 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, totals which included his freshman season at Hofstra. Kanacevic was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and was chosen as the Most Outstanding Player of the 2014 A-10 Championship.

Roberts earns All-Big 5 honors for the second time in his career. One of the most exciting players in school history, the 6-8 forward averaged a career-best 14.4 points while grabbing 7.4 rebounds per game. He shot 60.0 percent from the field and finished his career ranked second on the all-time list for career field goal percentage (57.0). Roberts, who was an All-A-10 Second Team and All-Championship Team honoree, totalled 1,398 points and 861 rebounds in his four years.

Former SJU great Pat Carroll will also be honored at the banquet on April 14 with his induction into the Big 5 Hall of Fame.
