By PAUL GOTHAM

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Malik Colvin-Seldon continued his torrid scoring pace, but it wasn’t enough as the Monroe Community College Tribunes fell to the Genesee Community College Cougars, 95-85 in WNYAC action, Wednesday night on Monagan Court.

Brian Fobbs (Bishop Kearney) led five in double figures as Genesee CC erased a double-digit first-half deficit to win for the seventh straight time. Fobbs netted a game-high 25 on 7-of-14 shooting including three of seven behind the arc.

The freshman guard converted four of five free throws late in the first half as the Cougars trimmed an 11-point MCC lead to two before going into the locker room trailing 42-38.

Fobbs nailed a catch-and-shoot 3-pointer early in the second half to give GCC a 50-47 edge. The Cougars did not trail again.

Colvin-Seldon, who has topped double figures in nine straight games, hit seven of nine from the field in the first half and finished with 21 points on the game.

The sophomore forward scored on back-to-back possessions to give Monroe a 31-21 advantage midway through the first half. Destin Blunt pushed the Tribs lead to 11 with a trifecta from the top of the arc. MCC led 37-26.

But Genesee chipped away from there pulling within four at 42-38 at halftime.

It looked like Monroe righted the ship coming out of the locker room when Colvin-Seldon blocked shots on consecutive possessions. Blunt and Kewan Platt scored at the other end for a 45-38 Tribune lead.

Genesee responded.

Rahmel Thompson connected behind the arc and followed with a layup. Brandon Peters converted a three-point play to give GCC a 47-45 edge. It was GCC’s first lead since 9-7.

Fobbs connected on the next trip down the floor, and the Cougars did not look back.

MCC’s Blunt scored 24 on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor and five of six from the free throw line. Teammate Devonte Dixon tallied 21 points. Omar Williams handed out a game-high six assists. Holden Redparth collected seven rebounds, five points and three assists. Platt had five points and three assists.

The Tribunes hit 6 of 14 3-pointers in first half and finished the night 9 of 30 from behind the arc.

Colvin-Seldon grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, and the Tribunes held a 41-33 advantage on the boards including 15 offensive caroms. But the Tribunes managed just 13 second-chance points.

Genesee forced 19 Monroe turnovers which they manufactured into a 26-11 advantage in points off turnovers.

Peters scored 18 for the Cougars, and Thompson had 15. Brandon Adams added 13, and Jaheem Page 10. Genesee converted 33 of 37 free throw attempts.

Monroe held Ladji Fofana to nine points on 4-of-7 shooting. Fofana had topped double-digits in 12 straight games including a season-high 35-point performance on January 25 when Genesee beat Monroe 86-85.

The loss snapped a four-game Monroe winning streak. The Tribunes fell to 14-10 (4-4 conference).

Genesee CC improved to 16-11 (6-2 conference). The Cougars took a half-game lead atop the Region III DII standings.

Monroe plays at Jamestown CC this Saturday.
