NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — La Salle’s Amy Griffin was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Fordham freshman Kate Kreslina earned Rookie of the Week honors. The awards, announced Monday, were for games played Dec. 5–11.
Griffin averaged 22.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for La Salle. The junior from Atlanta, Ga., scored 22 points in both wins, an overtime thriller at Penn on Wednesday and a home win over Fairfield on Saturday. Against Penn, she hit two game-tying jumpers in the final minute of regulation at Penn to force overtime, and blocked a shot on Penn’s final possession of overtime. She also scored 12 points in the 4th quarter against Fairfield to secure the win for the Explorers. She shot 18-for-35 (51.4%) from the field and averaged 2.5 assists and 2.5 blocks per game last week.
Kreslina recorded a career-high 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting in a tight win over Princeton on Saturday afternoon. For the week, the redshirt freshman from Riga, Latvia, averaged 12.5 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 8-of-17 from the field and 4-of-10 from 3-point range.
Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll
Davidson’s Mackenzie Latt helped the Wildcats to their first win of the season with an 82-72 victory against High Point filling the box score with a season-high 19 points on a season-best 9-of-17 shooting, while adding six rebounds and four assists…Duquesne’s Chassidy Omogrosso averaged 15.0 points per game last week for the Dukes and was 5-of-11 from 3-point range…Fordham’s G’Mrice Davis averaged 9.5 points and 14.5 rebounds over 36.0 minutes, shooting 50 percent from the field and 7-of-8 from the line, including several clutch free throws down the stretch of a tight win over Princeton on Saturday. Earlier in the week against Iona, Davis recorded her fourth double-double of the season… George Mason’s Kara Wright led the Patriots, averaging 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals in two road games last week. At Georgetown on Thursday in a 69-56 loss, she scored 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and tied a career high with six assists. Then on Sunday in a 72-46 victory at Illinois State, she posted her third career double-double, and second in the last three games, with 13 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. George Mason freshman Sarah Kaminski averaged 10 points and four rebounds in a pair of road games last week…Massachusetts’ Leah McDerment posted a career-high 14 assists in a win over Bryant on Saturday. That total is the second-most in a single-game in UMass school history. Freshman Hailey Leidel recorded her third game scoring more than 20 points in the UMass win over Bryant… In Saint Joseph’s’ lone game of the week at Central Michigan, sophomore Alyssa Monaghan scored a career-high 20 points, going 6-of-13 from the field, including 5-of-10 from behind the arc.
