Canisius freshman guard Isaiah Reese has been named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s Rookie of the Week after he averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game last week in a pair of non-league games. He is the first Canisius freshman to earn the conference’s rookie of the week award since the 2014-15 season.
Reese came off the bench and scored a career-high 16 points to go with four rebounds and three assists in the Golden Griffins’ 87-77 win at Boston University Dec. 7. He followed that effort with a career-high 17-point performance in the team’s 91-81 win over St. Francis Brooklyn Dec. 10, where he also grabbed a career-best seven boards. For the week, the Miami, Florida native shot 65 percent (13-for-20) from the field and 71.4 percent (5-for-7) from 3-point land in 23.5 minutes per game.
The Griffs, who have won four of their last five games, are 5-5 overall on the season after defeating St. Francis Brooklyn Dec. 10. The team will return to action tonight (Dec. 12) when the Blue and Gold plays host to Albany. Tipoff in the Koessler Athletic Center is set for 7 p.m.
