Player of the Week
Brett Bisping, Siena
RS-Jr., F, 6-8, 238, Peoria, IL/Morton
Bisping averaged 23.5 points and 15 rebounds while shooting 57 percent from the field and 60 percent from three-point range as Siena ran its win streak to four games with victories over Niagara and Marist this past week. Bisping began the week by scoring 15 of his 20 points in the second half to lead Siena to its first Western New York MAAC sweep in eight seasons with an 82-70 triumph at Niagara. He rounded out his first of two double-doubles on the week with 12 rebounds. Bisping then put together one of the top efforts in all of college basketball this season, posting 27 points to go along with a career-high tying 18 rebounds in Siena’s home win over Marist Saturday. He became just the 10th player in Division I with at least 27 points and 18 rebounds in a game this season, and the first player to do it in a MAAC contest in 16 years (Darren Fenn, Canisius – 2000). Bisping increased his MAAC-leading rebounding total to 9.3 boards per contest, the 40th highest total in the nation. He’s scored at least 20 points in three straight games (averaging 24.7 points, 13.7 rebounds and shooting 64% over that stretch) and in six of Siena’s last nine contests (shooting 54 percent from distance over last nine games). Bisping’s emergence as one of the league’s top stars has the Saints just one game out of first place with MAAC-leader Monmouth coming to Albany Monday night.
