La Salle’s Tyreek Duren Named First Team All-Big 5; Jerrell Wright On Second Team

PHILADELPHIA – La Salle senior Tyreek Duren (Philadelphia, Pa. / Neumann-Goretti) and junior Jerrell Wright (Philadelphia, Pa. / Dobbins Tech) have been named to the All-Philadelphia Big 5 First and Second Teams, respectively, it was announced today in voting conducted by the city’s head coaches and selected media.

Duren was named to the All-Big 5 team for the third straight season and lands on the first team for the second straight year. He becomes just the 14th Explorer to receive All-Big 5 three times in his career.

The Philadelphia product led the team in scoring (15.2 ppg.), assists (108), steals (51), three-point field goals (58), free throws (118), free throw percentage (.803) and minutes (36.2). He topped the Big 5 in steals and ranked fourth in assists and fifth in scoring.

Duren ranks 14th on La Salle’s all-time scoring list with 1,729 points and is third in steals (227) and fourth in assists (500). He is one of three Big 5 guards with 1,500 career points, 500 assists and 200 steals. Duren also earned second team All-Atlantic 10 and All-NABC District 4 honors this season.

Wright earns all-Big 5 honors for the first time in his career. He was second on the team in scoring (13.3 ppg.) and rebounding (6.6 rpg.) while leading the team in shooting (.576) for the third straight season.

His career shooting percentage (.576) ranks second all-time in La Salle history behind Craig Conlin’s .597 from 1985-89. Wright also owns three of the top eight shooting performances in a single season in Explorer history.

The Philadelphia native scored his 1,000th point versus Saint Joseph’s on February 15 and now has 1,114 points to rank 43rd all-time at La Salle.
