March 3, 2014 – CHICAGO – Marist junior guard Chavaughn Lewis’ posterizing slam against Monmouth on Jan. 30th is nominated for the GEICO Play of the Year, Intersport announced today.
Each week for eight weeks, four incredible college basketball plays will be nominated as the GEICO Play of the Year. Each week’s winner will be determined by fan voting through the official Facebook page (facebook.com/BestofCollegeBasketball). The eight finalists will compete in a week-long competition to determine the GEICO Play of the Year. The winner will be announced during the GEICO Best of College Basketball special which airsMarch 29 at 2 P.M. ET on CBS.
Midway through the first half in their game against Monmouth, Marist’s Chavaughn Lewis went baseline off of an out-of-bounds play and threw down a thunderous one-handed dunk. Lewis’ posterizing dunk is competing against three other plays from week eight, including a game-winning three byColorado’s Askia Booker, alley oop slam by Minnesota’s Austin Hollins, and another posterizing slam by Kansas State’s Marcus Foster.
