The Hawks expanded on the lead building it with a few more baskets from Jones, who had 10 points in the first eight minutes, and few highlight film dunks by
Ronald Roberts and C.J. Aiken to hold a 27-9 lead at 11:02. Despite a 9-0 run by GW to cut the deficity to 34-25, Saint Joseph’s would hold a 40-29 lead at the half.
An alley-oop by Roberts on an inbounds lob from Halil Kanacevic at 7:19 maintained the Hawks’ lead at 34-16. But from there, GW would go on a 9-0 run, with eight from Garino, to come within 34-25 with 4:50 to play. The Hawks got it back to double digits on a three-point play by Jones, but Dwayne Smith hit a jumper at :49 to bring the Colonials within 37-29. Galloway then hit one of his three three-pointers of the half to provide the halftime margin for SJU, 40-29.
SJU maintained a double-digit lead throughout most of the second half, but GW scored five straight points to close within 59-52 with 5:53 remaining. But Galloway connected on another three-pointer and the Hawks led by double figures the rest of the way.
