Balanced Richmond Dominates Minutewomen

AMHERST, Mass– Five  Spiders scored in double-figures as Richmond cruised past UMass, 73-54, Saturday afternoon in Amherst, Mass.

Richmond recorded its first A-10 road win of the season as it improved to 14-3, 2-1 overall. UMass fell to 6-12, 1-2.

Richmond took command of the game when it sprinted out to a 17-5 score, courtesy of a 10-0 run, jumpstarted by a Ryann Dannelly lay-up.Richmond led by as many as 23 in the first half before taking a commanding 39-21 lead into the break.

UMass would cut the lead to 51-35 with 12:39 left but could get no closer.

Richmond won its seventh-straight over UMass and had five players score in double figures for the second time this season. (Five Richmond players scored in double figures in the home-opening win against William & Mary).

Abby Oliver, Genevieve Okoro and Rachael Bilney led five Spiders in double figures with a team-high 12 points apiece. Kristina King scored a season-high 11 points, and Sam Bilney notched a season-best 10 tallies.

Richmond recorded 21 assists on 29 buckets and shot 8-of-17 from long range. Richmond had 11 steals, led by Becca Wann’s four takeaways.

The Spiders continue road play at St. Bonaventure Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
