Fran Dunphy has taken the Cherry and White to the dance the last three years. Each time the clock struck midnight before Temple found their stride. Dunphy’s 2010-11 Owls seem destined for another trip to the tournament. This time the fifth-year coach will have all the ingredients possible for a run.

Coach John McKay’s 6th ranked, 5-0-1 Southern Cal Trojans came to South Bend with a 23-game unbeaten streak for the annual battle with Notre Dame. Coach Ara Parseghian had the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at 5-0 & ranked 8th in the nation but they had not defeated Southern Cal since 1966. Notre Dame’s top-ranked defense had only allowed 2 touchdowns through the first 5 games & they held Southern Cal’s All-Pac 8 RB Anthony Davis to 50 yards rushing while the Notre Dame offense capitalized on 316 yards rushing including an 85-yard touchdown run by RB Eric Penick to gain a 23-14 victory claiming their first Belt reign.
Even if I can’t make claim to being a great pitcher, you have to give me at least a little credit for being in the top ten among active pitchers in four cumulative statistical categories.
D.J Gay and Chase Tapley provide the Aztecs with two ballhandlers capable of breaking down defenses. Gay led the way with 108 assists, and Tapley followed with 72. Gay’s 61 3-pointers paced the Aztecs lon-range attack. Tapley knocked down 35 from behind the arc.

A former Belt holder, the 1-5 Purdue Boilermakers coached by Alex Agase were next for the top-ranked, 6-0 Ohio State Buckeyes of coach Woody Hayes. Ohio State had not allowed a score in the last 2 games & the concern was not for a Buckeyes’ win but for a defensive shutout. Ohio State’s RB Pete Johnson rushed for 131 yards with 2 touchdowns while All-Big Ten QB Cornelius Greene threw for 2 touchdowns & rushed for another in a 35-6 Buckeye victory.
Yes, the Bills lost. Yesterday’s game set up for them like chickens at Perdue Farms. The Bills didn’t stand a chance. They were, and still are, winless going up against the vaunted defense of the Baltimore Ravens. And the Ravens were coming off a loss to the New England Patriots. Did Justin Beiber take advantage of the situation to take a shot at the Ravens?
