It is that time again. Let’s hear from you readers. We had another week of stellar performances. Pick the ONE that stands out to you, and tell us a story.

Stephen Strasburg gets my POTW.

Hype is one thing. Exceeding expectations is another thing. Count me among those who yawned last year when Scott Boras and Stephen Strasburg used the media to pine for for the rookie’s gaudy contract. Like so may others, I wanted to see Strasburg prove himself before he made demands.

Twelve months later and you can count me among those who regret not taking advantage of seeing Strasburg as he cut a swath through the minor leagues.

Deuces were wild this week: Stephen Strasburg made two appearances (his first in Major League Baseball) this week; he won two games, and in the process, Strasburg struck out 22 batters. THAT is a performance. 37 of Strasburg’s out for the week were the result Ks.

Who gets your POTW?

I’m going with the Boston Celtics’ bench. Enough talk about how the Lakers’ bench ISN’T performing. Glen Davis and Nate Robinson are making the difference in this series right now. Davis had a stellar game earlier this week. He runs the floor like a tight end on a skinny post. Then last night Nate Robinson kept making intelligent decisions. Great passes, taking and hitting the jumper when it is there, and providing a spark that gets even us couch potatoes at home in a frenzy.

I’ll go out on a biased limb here and tip my hat to Jesus Feliciano of the Mets. Why? Well, after 12 years in the minors, he finally gets a call up, and yesterday, gets his first and second major league hit.

But as far as stellar performance, yeah, that kid Strasburg.

Guys … c’mon … POTW should undoubtedly go to the CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS !!! The Hawks played stellar hockey during the week … winning games 5 and 6 to clinch their first Cup since 1961. Of course, you probably knew I would nominate them and were leaving me the honor :)

Haha – yes Wally. I was leaving the honor to you.

Bill – great call. The POTW is the place for bias.

Rey – I watched the game with four college women. Comment from one: “Do you think the next generation will be talking about Kobe the way we talk about Kareem, Magic and Bird? Yeah, it was a good night.

Kobe was unbelievable last night … in the second half … on offense. He was MJ without the GREAT defense (just pretty good defense) and was unable to will his team to victory. Too bad for LA he started rather poorly … the first half hole they dug was just too much to overcome. what a great offensive player though.

And is it just me, or does Kobe have an “Easy Button” he pushes that makes the rims real soft whenever he shoots??? I’ve never seen so many shots by one player clank around and then somehow roll in. Amazing.

I love watching Rondo play. And that out-of-bounds-save-turned-into fastbreak-starting-pass by Ray Allen was a thing of beauty … maybe THE play of the game.

I could watch that Allen to Pierce to Rondo play another ten times and I would still clap every time.

Humor me on this one! My POTW goes to some character (don’t know who) on some sit com (don’t know which) that I caught a snippet of as I passed by the TV (on my way to some much more worthy activity I’m sure). This character says to another character something like; “If you keep on talking, I am going to pull the muscles that roll the eyes!” It has become my mantra!

    Pete –
That’s what I feel like doing to all those horn tootin’ World Cup fans that create the incessant buzzing during the entire match. That has got to stop !!! And we wonder why it’s not catching on in America.

  9. WallyJune 14th, 2010 - 8:48 pm

I love those Washington Nationals caps that are patterned exactly like the 1960′s Senators version (see Strasburg above). If the Nationals never amount to anything, I can always say the “W” stands for “Wally”. Ha! Hey … Tiger’s got his own cap … I can have mine :)

  10. ReyJune 14th, 2010 - 9:22 pm

Wait a minute – has Wally been watching soccer???

  11. WallyJune 14th, 2010 - 9:27 pm

Yes … with the sound turned down. Given the lack of offense in soccer, I decided it wasn’t any worse than watching a near double no-hitter Sunday night … White Sox vs Cubs. Of course, it had to be the two Chicago teams causing MLB extreme embarrassment. I think the Blackhawks average more goals per game than the 2 Chicago baseball teams average combined runs. It’s quite sad really. :(

Well hang in there. This has been a rough World Cup thus far in terms of scoring. Netherlands, Brazil and Portugal have yet to play and they’ll surely bring some offense
