Okay, connoisseurs of all that is basketball, let us take the time and pour over some numbers. Below you will find raw statistics. The identities of these players are removed to avoid any possible allegiances or biases. Please avoid guessing or suggesting the players indicated by the statistics. Let’s discuss the possible value these players bring to their teams and to any team.
Let’s take a look at a pair of centers.
Player A
PPG 15.5 (team scores 76.6 while allowing 69.7), FG percentage 51.6 (161/ 312 team shoots 44.7 – 796/ 1,780), FT percentage 70.8 (143/ 302 team shoots 472/ 668), RPG 7.1 (team rebound margin +2.2), BPG 1.2, Assists to turnovers 1: 1.9, Fouls 2.6, Minutes played 29.1, his team’s strength of schedule (CBS)is currently ranked 7th.
Player B
PPG 10.6 (team scores 81.8 while giving up 65.7) FG percentage 66.8 (145/ 217 team shoots 51.8 – 903/ 1,744), FT percentage 43.9 (29/ 66 team shoots 449/ 666), RPG 5.1 (team rebound margin +4.1), BPG 1.2, Assists to turnovers 1: 2.5, Fouls 2.7, Minutes played 22.7, his team’s strength of schedule is currently ranked 13th.
Remember, the object is NOT to guess or suggest the player identities. The identities will be disclosed later. Let’s talk some hoops.
I’d rather have Player A … 5 more ppg, 2 more rpg, and fewer turnovers/assists. Also vs a slightly higher SOS. Seems like A takes a lot more shots from 6-15 ft than B does … just looking at the shooting %’s. I’m very solid on A.
Gotta agree with Wally – Player A. Player A’s rpg are 2 more per game – which certainly helps with Player A taking more shots. He is more active on glass. That is also going to lead to more trips to the free throw line – where he is vastly better 70.8 vs. 43.9. If I had a team, my center is active and I want him getting frequent flyer miles to the charity stripe. When he gets there he better take advantage.
Player A it is.
Good discussion.
This week’s blind resume participants are playing right now on the worldwide leader of sports.
Player A Samardo Samuels – Louisville
Player B Arinze Onuaku
I’m in late, but it was A all the way for me. Looks like I am the party line on this one.
I know that this is late, but I’d say player A as well. The two statistics that really stick out are FT % and assist/turnover ratio. I would definitely rather have A on my team.
