Capitol Hill via Victoria Parkway. I have made a few stops along the way – one of which is in Cooperstown. I have spent my time in the Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Finance Committee. Lately, I have been a fly in the ointment (that is putting it lightly) of a $10 billion dollar spending bill. I have had a polarizing effect amongst my constituents in the Bluegrass State. I made my college choice based on basketball. I played one season on the freshman team. At the time, freshmen could not play on the varsity. By the end of my freshman year, I was signed by a major league baseball team. I finished my college education serving as the coach of that freshman basketball. Ironically, I coached against Sandy Koufax who played at the University of Cincinnati. I was the first pitcher to record 100 wins and 1,000 strike outs in both the American and National Leagues.
Who am I?
Little baby Bunning?
Yes, Jim Bunning is the answer. The Kentucky Republican earned enshrinement in Cooperstown in 1996 by the Veteran’s committee. Interesting to note – Bunning led the NL in HBP four consecutive years 64-67 – he outdid Bob Gibson in this area. That takes some doing. Guess that was a pre-cursor to his work on Capitol Hill.
