It is that time again. Let’s hear from you readers. We had another week of stellar performances.  Pick the ONE that stands out to you, and tell us a story.

I am going with Shelvin Mack of the Butler Bulldogs.

Mack dropped 23 points to lead the Bulldogs to a 70-53 victory over the Siena Saints.

Mack went eight of fourteen from the field, including three of seven from behind the arc. Those numbers are not eye-popping, but it was Mack’s third three that earned the POTW.

With less than five minutes to go on the game clock, Butler led by nine. Siena locked down the Bulldogs for 30 seconds of the shot clock. Mack ended up standing in the coffin corner with ball in his hands. The sophomore glanced at the clock, took a dribble toward the basket, crossed over, stepped back, and released with a hand in his face. The shot clock horn sounded as the ball continued its flight.

Mack’s three was his second consecutive and eighth straight point as Butler pulled away for the victory. That three was a dagger in the heart of a Siena team trying to make a comeback on the road. The Saints got what they wanted – a pass to corner with less than 10 ticks remaining on the shot clock. Siena’s defense denied any and all passes. Mack was the only option, and he finished.

Who gets your POTW?

I believe that BOLD was for me.

I go with Ryan Miller. Before the game last night, the commentators said that he had to be “unconscious” to help the U.S. win. He wasn’t quite that, but he was stellar and he was easily the reason why the U.S. won a game in which they were completely dominated. Do they keep track of time of possession in hockey. If they do, it was at least 2 to 1 if not 3 to 1 in favor of the Canadians. Miller faced over 40!! shots. That’s a ridiculous number, especially considering all of the legitimate scoring chances the Canadians had. He was great. That was the most riveting hockey game I’ve seen in a while. I’m not a huge watcher of hockey, but that was one of the best sports viewings I’ve had in a while.

Ryan Miller…my ONE player of the week.

    Dan –
That was a GREAT hockey game … good call on Ryan Miller.

I’ll go with another Miller … Bode Miller … the U.S. downhill ski racer who now has 3 medals of each color in these Vancouver games with two more events to go. Miller also earned two medals in Torino in 2006.

    Good calls!

Wally – it is good to see Bode Miller take advantage of an opportunity for redemption.

I am staying with the Olympics and picking Torah Bright from Australia. Torah won the gold in the women’s halfpipe last week, beating 3 Americans who were heavily favored. Sometimes you have to root for the underdog and it was easy to see her take home the gold.

    Great call Smitty!!!!!
