How about the Pro Bowl being played before the Super Bowl this year… My prediction, ratings will be “Huuuuuuuggggggge” compared to previous years. “Huge” might be overstating it, but I think ratings will be up. And that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it?
I am really not in favor.Already heard that NFL is making the players from Super Bowl teams be there on sidelines. this takes.away from their preparation. No thank you. The game should be in Hawaii after the season and be what it was meant to be – an exhibition game. This from my phone so.I apologize for the poor English. Can’t stop can only contain me.
Smitty – helmet sticker for the effort.
Everything I have heard suggests the players are not happy and are glad this is a one year experiment.
But … as Dan says … ratings might be HUGE. If they are, one way to incentivise the players to “feel better about it” if they want it to continue into the future with the pre-SB game is to give them a slice of the ratings bonanza … more $ or other perks … like a late Feb trip to Hawaii with no game. It’s all about the money!
Personally, I usually don’t watch the Pro Bowl after the SB … I’d much rather watch college hoops or other NBA games that actually matter. Doubt I’ll watch it this weekend either.
Is there really any point to the Pro Bowl game? Outside of giving a bunch of guys who can already afford it a free trip to Hawaii? Other All Star games, like Baseball, or Hockey, for example, come in the middle of the season, and usually have a generally good natured vibe to them. But the Pro Bowl is like a high school graduation party in the middle of August – who cares?
Bill –
I’m with you 100% on this. Why does anyone care about a FOOTBALL game where everyone is playing to 40-60% energy cuz nobody wants to get hurt and there’s absolutely nothing riding on the outcome ????
I’ve always liked the MLB All-Star game because it was mid-season, the players, for the most part, respect the honor/privilege of playing in it, there’s a real rivalry between the two leagues, and now there’s actually something riding on the outcome other than pride. The baseball All-star game is the only one I feel this way about.
The NBA and NHL games are better than NFL ProBowl, but still greatly watered down cuz nobody wants to play any defense or get hurt. At least they’re mid-season.
I even feel the NBA All-Star GAME is watered down. More of the attention is on the dunk and skills contest.
You are tright hough, the baseball all-star game seems to be treated with the most regard.
Wow! There’s a name I had forgotten. Bagley was solid in college. Not so in the NBA. But he did claim a roster spot for 10 seasons.
Casey, am I missing something? Who mentioned Bagley? On the other hand, did you catch “Wally the Linguist”; incentivise!! It’s going in MY vocab!
Ha! Pete, you did not miss anything. I screwed up. Wally mentioned Bagley in the thread for this week’s College basketball splinters. I apologize for the confusion.
