It’s that time again. Let’s hear from you readers. We had another week with a bounty of performances with which to choose. Pick the ONE that stands out to you, and tell us a story.
I am going with Xavier’s Terrell Holloway.
Holloway’s stat line against the Dayton Flyers looks pedestrian. The sophomore point guard scored 15 points, dished out two assists, grabbed three rebounds, and had two steals. None of those stats were tops for the game or even for his team.
But one stat stands out: zero turnovers! In a heated battle against a conference rival that forces its opponents into an average of 15 turnovers per game, the native of Hempstead, New York took care of business.
Holloway took on the task of dealing with Dayton’s two-headed defensive monster of Rob Lowery and London Warren. Lowery and Warren took turns hounding Holloway from end to end, but the sophomore never flinched.
Holloway went 13-14 from the free throw line including two with one tick on the clock as Xavier downed Dayton, 78-74.
Xavier committed just eight turnovers for the game.
X!….A!….V!…IER!!! X!….A!….V!…IER!!!
Who gets your POTW?
Given the upset and their “sticktoitiveness”, I have to go with the Jets for their win over the Chargers. Are they a reincarnation of the Ravens of 200x who they went all the way with a great defense and functional Trent Dilger at QB??? (see … I’m hypin’ the defense!).
Honorable Mention to the Vikings for their thorough domination of the Cowpokes. Who woulda thunk 34-3???
Hmm. Since football is completely covered..
I’ll go with the Syracuse Orangemen with their impressive win against West Virginia. Always a tough place to play for the Orange, this is a big win for them and definitely secures them as an early favorite for a #1 seed in the NCAA..
Smitty –
Do you think ‘Cuse is better than Nova? Likely only one BE team will secure a #1 seed.
Smitty – good call. Returning to the trail of crumbs tact? C’mon ya had two other football games?
My performance of the week would have to be Dante Jackson from Xavier. Jackson had one of his best games so far this season with 19 points, five rebounds and two assists. Jackson went 5 for 8 behind the arc, and had a nice dunk at the end of the game to keep the momentum with Xavier to beat Dayton.
And besides, Smitty … adding to Casey’s point … you need to be quicker on the trigger … I’m 4 hours behind you guys over here … that’s F-O-U-R hours B-E-H-I-N-D (feelin’ the need to spell it out for ya). So by the time I’m on and there’s still a blank sheet of paper there, I’m assuming you’re either on vacation, eating a loaf of bread, and/or simply don’t understand the question. Gotta keep things movin’. So have a take (quickly) and don’t suck. Out.
Are you serious?
That was not my intention.
Just play along, would ya?
Uh….no!
Ab – Great nomination!! I can’t wait to get DVR service again, because Saturday’s game is one that I wish I could have watched. The game sounds like it was incredible!
Thanks to the Commish’s texts, I was chanting X-A-V-IER at Century..
