What a week of sports action with so many performances with which to choose. Step up readers and tell us a story. Give us your one, une, uno performance of the week.

If at first you don’t succeed try, try again.

With that in mind, Seton Hall’s Jeremy Hazell (pronounced ha-ZELL) grabs my POTW in a losing effort.

Hazell scored a career-high 41 points as the Pirates lost their Big East opener in overtime to No.6 West Virginia, 90-84.

It did not come easy. Hazell finished the game 14-33 from the field including 4-19 from the three point arc.  When the Pirates needed him most, the senior from Harlem delivered.

Seton Hall trailed by 10 with :56 remaining. Hazell nailed two three-pointers in the final :17 to send the game to extra time. Hazell’s second trey came from 25′ away with a hand in his face.

West Virginia came into the game holding opponents to less than 50 points per game and 29 per cent from behind the arc.

Who gets your POTW?

At the risk of drawing the ire from the Commish, I am going with Jonathon Stewart of the Carolina Panthers. Mr. Stewart ran for a career high 206 yards in the Carolina thrashing of the N.Y. G-Men.

To add insult to injury, it was the Giants’ last game in the Jimmy Hoffa Memorial Stadiumand it eliminated them from any playoff possibilities. Can’t say that I am sad to see the Giants get knocked out of the playoffs, and yes – I am still bitter 2 years later about the Helmet catch.

    Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhh!

Consider the ire drawn. I am trying to remember a more disappointing performance by a favorite of mine. None come to mind. I was numb by the middle of the third quarter.

My ode to Giant stadium is coming.

Hmmmm. I am not sure how it got changed.

Never good when your favorite team throws up an egg..

I believe the Jets play there this weekend – let’s see if they can throw up another egg in Jimmy Hoffa Memorial Stadium

Homer call here, but I’ve got to enjoy this while it lasts: the Chicago Blackhawks received 8 of possible 10 points over a 5 game stretch ending Sunday, including big wins over the teams chasing them in division. With 55 points, the Hawks now lead the NHL overall.

I’d say give it to Paul Gotham for misspelling “succeed” in the beginning, and then not putting a space after the comma and before the second “try.”

But hey, I’m a geek that way.

well, I guess you tried again. and sorry for the cheap shot, but I haven’t had any sleep since the 8 year old got me up at 4:20 am on christmas, and I’ve been a little edgy.
