Another week of sports action, and so many great performances with which to choose. Step right up readers and give us the one (1), uno, une performance that stands out for you this past week.

Not sure how far the tremors reached, but the roar heard between 3pm and 4pm EST came from Western New York as the Buffalo Bills exploded for 24 unanswered points en route to a 31 – 14 come-from-behind pounding of rival, Miami Dolphins.

After too many years existing in  the depths of NFL despair, Buffalo Bills’ fans could cheer. Ryan Fitzpatrick hooking up with Terrell Owens on a 51-yard bomb opened the flood gates and the Bills poured it on from there. Buffalo’s defense accounted for three interceptions. Fred Jackson rushed for 73 yards and accumulated 43 receiving yards.

Congratulations to interim coach, Perry Fewell, on his first victory. Thanks go to Fewell for injecting enthusiasm into a team that seemed dormant for the past few seasons.

Who gets your POTW?

I’ll nominate Chris Johnson (8.6 yds/carry), Vince Young (387 yds, 1 TD) and the Tennessee Titans who came from behind with a 90+ yard drive to beat the Cardinals with only seconds left. Their 5th win in a row. Young is starting to look like a real QB.

    Wally,

Great call and thanks for the lead into this week’s NFL Splinters.

Gotta go with the old man and nominate Bretty Farve. Farve made Wally’s Beloved Chicago Bears look ligh a high school team – torching them to the sound of 34 got 48 for 392 yards and 3 TDs.

The old man still has it..

Here’s a salute to Luke “Double-Double” Harangody. Last night in a win over Idaho State, he became the first ever Notre Dame hoops player to accumulate 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. And we’re only 8 games into his senior season. The Irish haven’t won any nat’l titles, but they have a long list of terrific players, so this is a great accomplishment! (Wonder how Troy Murphy never hit this mark?)

Now, how did the team play so poorly vs the Northworstern Mildcats over the weekend? Mike Brey … you’re on the hot seat that just torched the butt of Charlie Weis!!

Murphy only played three years in college.

Be careful in taking Northwestern lightly. The Wildcats have now beaten in succession Notre Dame, Iowa State, and NC State (in Raleigh). Northwestern showed signs of this last year when they beat Michigan State, Minnesota, Ohio State, and Purdue.

I know, and Murphy is 6’11″, so I’m still surprised he didn’t hit the 2k/1k plateau. But Austin Carr, John Schumate, Oooooorlandoooo Wooooolridge, Adrien Dantley, Monte Williams, et al all fell short.

You’re right about NW. They’re a pretty good team. I just like to pick on their mediocre past, although I root for them.

By the way … I love the Bills throwback uni’s from the 70′s. They need to wear ‘em all the time.
