    Two words – Hideki Matsui.

Oh lord…and you are not even a Yankees fan.

And the Yankees claim their 27th World Series title. Congratulations to the Bronx Bombers, you earned it. Forget about your ridiculous payroll. Why not just buy as many rings as possible while you ruin the game and live up to the nickname the Evil Empire.

And I shall not forget to congratulate the plethora of casual Yankee fans. Especially all you fans who probably didn’t watch a single regular season game all year, especially when the team stumbled out of the gate. It was a great fall to dust of that Yankee cap you ‘misplaced’ sometime in the past few years, and claim to everyone your undying devotion to the boys in blue.

Congrats to the New Yankee Stadium. You may have allowed a record number of home runs, but you hosted a World Series in your first year. Forget that all your charm is gone; that you are now a hang out for New York elitists who can afford your ludicrous prices. Forget it cost a billion dollars to build you. Forget that you have empty seats shown on TV in every section during the World Series, proving the devotion of your fans.

Let me thank some of the Yankees that made this all possible. My congrats to Johnny Damon; cutting your hair, shaving your beard, and selling your soul must feel prettay, prettay good right now. Hideki Matsui, you captured the WS MVP and the Yanks will probably now cast you aside. But I’d most like to congratulate, and even thank, Alex Rodriguez and Andy Pettite. You have shown us how quickly we forget and forgive transgressions that many serious baseball fans know have somehow tainted the game forever. You are both on the long list of players that will have an asterisk associated with their name by many for years to come. You have also shown us that the old adage “cheaters never win” is an outdated and silly saying like “get a horse” or “Is that your final answer?”

You know, I’m not a Yankee fan (but I am a Mets fan, so seeing the Phillies tank was sweet), but his numbers are pretty ridiculous, and for that, well, a tip of the hat. Imagine the horrible hype if A-Rod had his numbers, and just how disgusting all the hype would have been, as if his freaking ego needed to expand any further (although the site of his cranium exploding on live tee vee would have been a hoot – poor Kate). Z Dubbz makes some excellent points above, and Hideki will probably be cast aside like a splintered bat, but he’ll be welcomed back home, so I say let him have the moment.

Still, given all the above including my own dislike of the Yankmees, I’ve got to take my hat off to both Andy Pettite and Mariano Rivera. Two of the all-time great post-season performers. And it goes without saying that Rivera is one of the all-time best pitchers, period. A class act that matches the ability.

Casey — Time for a self-serving request … how about a recap on those Crystal Ball point totals???

Don’t forget to tip your hat to Jeter.

Yes, congratulations to the Yankees for winning their 27th World Series title. I think at some point, all the Yankees stepped up to beat the Phillies.

That being said – let’s recognize Chase Utley who had a phenomenal series. Outside of Cliff Lee, he was probably the main reason the series went 6 games.

I have to get it on the board – but how about the LeMoyne Dolphins? Knocking off the Syracuse Orangemen 82-79. LeMoyne is Divsion II, so us alumni, this is the equivalent of US beating Russia in hockey in 1980. This wasn’t supposed to happen. Still – it was awesome.. Go Dolphins!!

Oh yeah, congratulations to the Yankees.

That sound you just heard was me vomiting in my mouth.

Great point about Jeter, Casey. As much disdain as we have for Yankmee ownership, we must admit they have some pretty classy players like the 3 mentioned above, plus add in Posada. And also in past title seasons … like O’Neil, Williams, Brosius, Martinez, etc.
