I played many indoor games at Salmon Creek with some pretty good soccer players, as you can imagine. But even though I was not a polished soccer player by any means, the indoor atmosphere lended itself way to simple, effective play.

Quick, crisp passes. A lot of "one timers." It's more akin to a basketball game in there; kind of like constantly running a fast break only in soccer. I used to love using the wall to my advantage because I had very few advantages against the competition.

Rey

I was introduced to futsal a couple of years ago. Amazing stuff. Youth club teams have been playing on basketball courts for almost 30 years now. It can be some of the ugliest soccer you have ever seen, but when done right, it is beautiful.

Our club coach used to be close friends with the late Doug May. We would go and train at R.I.T. with their team in the off-season. Most of that work was on basketball courts. Oh man, we were like pylons as they passed around us.

Just the other night a youth team was training on the beach at Charlotte. The kids get fired up with adrenaline because so many people are around.

This article is another triumph to add to your resume.
