Thanks guys. I'll be sure to let you know what I find out, specifically regarding the county with the most HOFers, but I'm really curious to know what they did with that monument too. I'm hoping it's now in the Dutchess County Sports Museum.

And I say: "OVERRATED"! No sticker for this rockhead. As I always say, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Any clever comments were purely by chance!

Chas, you love to research, so I await anxiously your final determination re: "county with the most HOFers". When you stop to think of the number of professional athletes that come from my own area, I realize how few any area produces. To produce two baseball HOF players is indeed impressive. Great piece indeed. I too puzzle over the decisions re: the ballpark and monument. At least they could have built a mall or a convenience store!

Hmmm. Is Maggie Brooks in charge of planning down there? Might explain things.

Great piece Chas - a very enjoyable read.

No response from the mayor huh? Let me guess - maintaining the field did not fit in with the town's idea of fiscal responsibility.

"...money - It always ends up making you blue as hell."

Wow - why would they take down Brouthers monument? And for that matter, the ballpark? It doesn't look as if that land is being put to any use. Very strange, especially in a small town that would probably love to have such an honorable former citizen.

Great write up, Chas.
