Yes, the pinstripes continued winning…when the weather allowed. Rain has made itself a frequent companion of late – good for the lawns, and good if you like doubleheaders. Webster will have to stare at a few double dips in July.

Webster opened the week with an extra-inning win over Brockport, 6-5 at Basket Road Field. One night later Casey Rana (U Texas Permian Basin) scattered nine hits as Geneva shut out Webster, 4-0. Precipitation won Thursday and Friday. Webster topped Allegany County in a battle of first and second place teams.  Finally, Michael Craig tossed a four-hit shutout (the last two innings through rain drops) as Webster beat Alfred 2-0.

Jason Edwards (Toledo) had himself a week. The Trenton, Ohio native improved his average to .344 going 7-12 for the week with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Shawn Bailey (SUNY Cortland) leads the way batting .390. The Webster native has displayed some sparkling defense at short. Bailey also knows well the virtues of dropping a bunt for a single – he has accomplished that feat six times this season.

Steve Muoio (Georgia C&S) leads the team with 17 hits. Muoio has also made countless defensive gems on the season.

Nate Koontz continues to top the list with two HRs and 10 RBI.

As we approach the halfway point of the season, Webster’s perch atop the NYCBL’s West Division looks nice. But we have learned that fortunes can change quickly. As it stands now Webster has already experience two casualties. Pat Devlin (UMass-Lowell) went down with a hand injury. He has since had surgery to repair a broken bone in his wrist. Needless to say, Devlin is on the shelf for the summer.

Ricky Clark (Central Michigan) took a pitch on the hand. He returned to Mason, Michigan for XRays. Tests were negative, but he has been encouraged to rest the hand. Head Coach Dave Brust has a solid lineup, but one more injury could cause problems.

Webster will play 23 games in July – 12 on the road.
