Yes, this is a Homer topic, but cheers to Terry “Tito” Francona for winning his 500th game earlier this week as manager of the Boston Red Sox. Considering the history of the Red Sox it is hard to believe that he is only the 3rd manager in Red Sox history to reach that plateau.

Francona only trails Miller Huggins (560) and Joe Cronin (1,071) in the wins column. I think it is safe to say he will pass Huggins and here is hoping that Francona surpasses Cronin.

In a city where expectations are high and fickle – Francona has continued to exceed them.

    Yeah, yeah, yeah…Terry Francona…blah, blah, blah. :)

Seriously, he’s obviously been an excellent manager, and exactly what that team needed/needs. It will be interesting to see how he continues to handle the Ortiz situation.

    Here’s another topic: Tom Glavine…WTF?

Chas – Tom Glavine being released is certainly questionable, especially since they were willing to stick with him through his rehab and he looked really good in his first rehab start. I think it had to do with $$ and with the fact that the Braves are excited about a youngster named Tommy Hanson.

It is interesting because on one hand, they traded for help, Nate McClouth in what I think is a steal of a deal, but then dump veteran pitching. I wonder if they are not planning on contending this year and looking towards next year.

There is another topic – How about the Pittsburgh Pirates? I have to question their front office – yet again – about recent deals. In the last year, they have traded both Jason Bay and Nate McClouth. Not saying that McClouth was a star – yet – but he is young and starting to come into his own. And for who?
