zqwvuejjwlybqrm20090411143637Plenty to pick from this week.  I am expecting several nominations.  I am going off the beaten path a little.  My POTW goes to the Ball State Cardinals baseball team who traveled to Columbus, Ohio and hammered #23 Ohio State 20-8.  Yeah, you read that right 20-8.  The Cardinals hammered 12 extra-base hits to outscore the Buckeyes 20-3 over the last four innings.  Call the Cardinals the Big Ten Champs.  The MAC school is 3-0 versus the Big 10 with earlier victories over Indiana 5-4 and Purdue 17-8.

Four Cardinals will suit up for the Webster Yankees this summer: Ryan Chenoweth, Scott Brothers, Nate Koontz, and Dominic Catanzarite.  Chenoweth ripped a pair of doubles in the upset of the Buckeyes.  Brothers tossed a shutout frame.

Who gets your POTW?

While it is still April, somehow the Red Saux found a way to come back in the first two games with the Yanks, and then watch their young pichers get the job done while a rumbin’, bumblin’, stumblin’ Jacoby Ellsbury excited this totally biased observer as he managed something that I had never witnessed during live action, the stealing of home! Even Jon Miller was excited calling the action! So, I guess I am nominating the Red Saux Youngin’s for their major contributions to Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN.

I’m giving it to Matthew Stafford. This kid has convinced an NFL team that he is worth a guaranteed 41 million dollars without having ever played in an NFL game or even a practice. Now that is a PERFORMANCE! Godspeed young man.

Roger Goodell could earn himself a POTW if he follows up on his intentions and adjust the NFL payment structure. 41 million for a rookie?!?! There were years in the 70s when the whole league didn’t make that much!

Muels – Couldn’t agree more on the performance of the Red Sox youngsters and the rest of Tito’s gang. It is only April, but after a slow start – this team is starting to look like the real deal. When will Theo lock up Jason Bay long term?

I would like to nominate Derrick Rose and Rajon Rondo for Sunday’s performance in Game 4 of their series. Rarely can I sit through an entire NBA game. Well both players, along with some clutch shooting from Ray Allen and Ben Gordon – got me to sit through the 3rd & 4th quarters, along with both overtimes. Rondo had a triple-double and I think Rose did ( if not, he was close). Sure the C’s lost the game, but it was great theater.

Dude – we gotta get you into rehab. JD – can you help…PLEASE!!!!

As I was watching that game I kept thinking – another great NBA game, and the Celtics are involved…again.
