NCAA Villanova Duke BasketballWhether it was Villanova holding down Duke or Michigan State trimming Louisville, my POTW goes to the defense.  It was a thing of beauty watching those two teams get after it on the defensive end of the floor.  Both Villanova and MSU held their opponents to 20 points under their season average.  That’s getting it done.

Who gets your POTW?

I gotta go with Michigan State’s performance as the best of the week in terms of exceeding expectations. Izzo & Co really outsmarted and outhustled the favored Cardinals.

On a personal note, I must give kudos to the starting five of the State Champion Chugiak Lady Mustangs. The All-State teams were revealed Sunday and all five starters were in there somewhere. Chugiak had one first teamer, two second-teamers including my daughter Emily, and two Honorable mentions. Oh … and the head coach was Coach of the Year. Anyway, a little icing on the cake for these girls after capturing the state title a little more than a week ago. Three of them are graduating in May. Emily and another junior return next season for one more go at it.

I am sticking with the “defense” them and going with Tiger Woods for defending his title at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Needing a birdie to win it on 18, Sunday – he not only knocked his second shot stiff, but sank a 16 footer for birdie. Tiger just proving again why he is – well, Tiger.

His emergence only fuels my anticipation of one of the best tournaments in the world – The Masters.
