Consider this – from last Thursday forward anyone of us can be walking down the street or be shopping for groceries or doing anything in public when we might hear: ‘and six quarters later…’
We won’t need to know the folks involved in that conversation, but we will know exactly what they are talking about.
Maybe this week’s POTW should be a discussion about the Syracuse Orange and their victory over UConn.
Is it a foregone conclusion that Jonny Flynn gets the POTW? But does the Niagara Falls native get the POTW for Thursday’s game? Or is it Friday’s game? Or the fact that Syracuse – despite back-to-back OT victories on the previous two nights – still managed to have a lead at halftime over Louisville in the Big East championship?
Maybe we could discuss the the tournament in general.
On the Sports Reporters this morning they talked about the prospect of expanding the field of 65. To which Bob Ryan replied: Expand the field? The NCAA tournament has already been going on for two weeks. All of these teams(with the excpetion of those in the Ivy League) are competing for an automatic bid. That is part of the NCAA basketball tournament.
And what a start it has been.
The SU OTmen. Need I say more?
Or BE, with 3 #1 seeds! Wow!
I’ll go with Dionte Christmas and the Temple Owls winning their second straight A-10 tournament, having to knock off #1 seed Xavier (Sorry Abbey) to do it. Much respect to Duquense who has been a relatively easy opponent for A-10 competition in years past. They finished second in the tournament having beaten Dayton in the semis to get there. I was hoping for their inclusion to the big dance (big win over Xavier earlier didn’t help I guess), but missed out by an obvious long shot.
For a more realistic pick, I’d go with Texas Tech’s Mike Singletary who scored 29 straight points and scored a total 43 in Tech’s Big 12 tourney victory over Texas A&M.
Rey – great call!!!!
And to think – Bob Knight recruited Singletary.
I am nominating Phil Mickelson for winning the World Golf Championship despite not being able to eat for 3 days. Lefty has to get some love on da’ bench!!
Don’t forget about Dwayne Wade’s 48 point 12 assist effort in the Heat’s double OT win over the Bulls early in the week. A legendary performance.
also, the Nazareth Lasers have advanced to the NY State Final Four in their class … terrific!
I’d also like to single out Lou’ville for two really impressive second half comebacks down the stretch in the BE tournament.
Lastly … Syracuse … how they were able to extend that game vs UConn after never leading in OT until the sixth and final OT … now that’s perseverance!
My son runs an NCAA player draft; $10, 8 players, we draft on Wednesday evening (probably late by Edgemere Standard Time since several are west coasters). Casey played last year; he’s looking to be even more competitive this year. If any one else wants in just e-mail me at papanaro@gmail.com
