Many great performances to choose from this week.

Taylor Rochestie from Washington State grabs my POTW.  And not just because of his name.  :)

Coming into the weekend the Cougars had one victory in Pauley Pavilion.  Make that two.

Rochestie scored a career-high 33 including 14 of Washington State’s final 15 to lead the visiting Cougars over UCLA, 82-81.

Rochestie went a perfect 10-10 from the line – added 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and two steals.

Numbers only tell half the story as the senior won for the first time at Pauley in his final appearance.  Late in the game the point guard had buried back-to-back threes.  With UCLA extending their defense to neutralize Rochestie, the Santa Barbara native drove the lane for a lay up.  When his tear drop kicked off the back iron, the 6’1″ senior took to flight, rose above the forwards, and tapped the rebound into the twine.

Rochestie went 5-7 from long range.

Washington State came into the game averaging 58 points per game.

Who gets your POTW?

Hard to beat your nominee, Casey. That was a GREAT performance by Rochestie and for “Wazzou”, as they say here in the Pac Northwest. They broke a loooooooooooooooong losing streak at Pauley Pavilion.

For second place, “Dad pride” requires me to nominate Emily for notching her H.S. career high point total on Wednesday. Per the ADN:

Emily Watzke canned three of Chugiak’s six 3-pointers and finished with 21 points as the visiting Mustangs beat West to extend their conference winning streak to 10 games. The Mustangs (14-3, 10-0) outscored West in all four quarters to remain the league’s top team with four games left in the regular season. Chugiak hasn’t lost since January 10 and is currently ranked #2 in the state.

She was shootin’ it like her old man used to ;) .

    It certainly wasn’t Alex Rodriguez.

    I have tie for me:

Between Gerald Henderson dropping 35 against the Demon Deacons in a much needed ACC win for Duke and J.J. Abrams who scored 23 for the Texas Longhorns in their upset over Oklahoma. At one point during the last 8 minutes of the game, Abrams scored 16 straight points for the Longhorns.

Abrams had to be thinking man this could have been a great season if I just had a point guard…like DJ Augustin – not to mention Kevin Durant.
