mailgooglecom344-6!  Let me repeat that 44-6!

There’s an old saying – the only stat that matters is the one on the scoreboard.  The Philadelphia Eagles lived that mantra today as they sent the Dallas Soap Opera home for the season.

A look at the box score shows

First Downs: Philly 16 – Dallas 15

Total Yards: Philly 303 – Cowpokes 298

Time of Possession: Philly 30:55 – General Hospital 29:05

But as the world turns the ‘Pokes would commit 5 turnovers, and the Eagles took advantage.

Hey Jerra!  How you doing?

Who gets your POTW?

The New York Yankees get my vote for actually spending their money pretty wisely on Mark Teixera. Did the Saux get used? Maybe, but they are big boys playing a big boys game. What I wonder is if this forces Theo to do some other things that he wouldn’t have done had he signed Tex. I ‘m thinking of the Celtics after missing out on Greg Oden in the NBA draft and making 2 deals that started them towards a championship. I’m dreaming about a young catcher in Minnesota who is headed for possible free agency in a year- would Theo go after him now- and would the Twins let him go (for a fair package)? We will see…
Food for the hot stove discussion…

My hat is off to the Miami Dolphins, who completed one of the best turnarounds going 1-15 last season to 11-5 and a playoff bound. They had to win 2 games with both the Jets and Pats breathing down their necks. The Jets faltered, Pats won both and the Dolphins did their job. While they certainly may have benefited from a “soft” schedule this year – they did take care of their business and won the games they were supposed to win. Can’t be said for a few other NFL teams.

Give it up for Bill Parcells. :)

Both the Patriots and the Cowboys miss the playoffs! Oh, what a glorious day! :)

First time since 1985 that an 11 win team didn’t make the playoffs. Just shows you how tough the AFC was this year.

The AFC east of the Mississippi, that is.

It does seem a bit ridiculous to me that an 11-5 team loses out on the playoffs due to a tiebreaker…especially when an 8-8 team makes it. I’m not really suggesting any changes. I know one-game playoffs are virtually impossible in football, but going to 8 divisions certainly made such a circumstance more likely to happen.

Chas – Thanks for bringing it up. I didn’t want to bring it up since it would only sound like sour grapes.

But 8-8 teams should NOT be in the playoffs.

Yeah, the more I think about it, the less psyched I am that the Pats didn’t make it. The whole four division format is terrible, or they should have some crazy rule that you need to win 9 games to be eligible for the playoffs. Take an extra wild card if there’s an 8-8 division winner. If Denver had won last night, fine.
