Performance of the Week (POTW) 11/17-11/23
Get accustomed to this guy getting my POTW a while. Stephen Curry’s second half against Oklahoma was nothing to sneeze at. In the season’s first match up of ranked opponents Curry dropped 27 and handed out two assists…in the second half. The junior finished with 44 and three dishes. All that in 33 minutes of play as Curry sat out the end of the first half with foul trouble.

I am sure everyone has read it, but I am going with J.P. Hayes, who during the second leg of Q- School in the PGA Tour – choose honesty and integrity over money – by disqualifying himself for using the wrong golf ball.
No one would have noticed, but Hayes should be commended for holding himself to a high standard. Something I am not sure every golfer would do.
Nice choice, Smitty.
Another good choice would the Oklahoma Sooners rushing attack: 299 yards in a 65-21 win over the no. 2 ranked team in the country, albeit one who they were favored to beat.
However, call me a homer, but my POTW goes to Mike Mussina for sticking to his plan and going out on top.

How about the Xavier basketball team for starting 5-0 including taking down highly ranked Memphis to win the Puerto Rico tournament. They are, after all, Kelly’s new favorite team

Possible future POTW: Nick Saban. He could become the first coach ever to have consensus national champions with two different schools. If you stretch the definition of national champion to include any time a team was voted #1 in ANY poll at the end of the season, then several coaches have championships at multiple schools, led by Knute Rockne’s friend Howard Jones, who was #1 with Yale, Iowa, and USC. Bonnie Rockne and Mrs. Jones became good friends and were ultimately responsible for starting what has become the greatest intersectional rivalry in college football. The wives talked, and at Bonnie’s insistence, Knute invited Jones to bring his USC team to Chicago to play ND at Soldiers Field, the only place in the midwest big enough to hold the crowd Rockne anticipated (and got). That rivalry has been renewed every year except during WW II (1944 and 1945) due to travel restrictions. This Saturday it will be renewed once again, and Irish fans can only hope for a classic to be added to the annals of great games.
