Who needs adequate rest? Certainly not CC Sabbathia. Pitching on three days rest (something he is becoming familiar with) Sabbathia tossed a complete game, 4 hitter as the Brew Crew clinched a post-season berth for the first time since Gorman Thomas, Cecil Cooper, Jim Gantner, and Paul Molitor roamed the diamond of County Stadium in Milwaukee.
Who gets your POTW?
I’m going back to my college town and giving it to Jimmy Rollins. The man can play defense and made a diving stop for a double play with the bases loaded in the 9th. I guess I’ll be rooting for the Phils this October.
I am going against the grain and giving kudos to Mike Mussina. A veteran who has been around and is probably done in New York after this season. He beat the Red Sox today to earn his 20th win of the season.
The first time he has reached that plateau. He has been a very good pitcher for a long time – probably won’t hear the Hall call, but has nothing to be ashamed about with his career.
Forgot one that I would like to mention – Matt Bryant.
Not sure I would be able to lose a son, bury him on Saturday and still have the ability to perform on Sunday. He was perfect on Sunday and for him to set aside all emotion for a couple of hours was incredible.
My condolences to Bryant family. Never a good thing when you have to bury one of your children, even worse when you only get to know your child for 3 months.
Matt Bryant- just for standing up after facing the worst thing a father could ever face- losing a child. I cringe just trying to start to put myself in his place. We might be able to show up to work the day after burying a child, but would we be anything more than a blob of jello? He actually performed his job perfectly under the already existing pressures of the job, let alone the added weight of his heartbreak. My heart goes out to Bryant and his family…
